First Congregational UCC, Battle Creek, Michigan

11:45 AM Koinonia Service

Wherever you are on your journey, you are welcome here.

Koinonia at First Congregational Church is a welcoming community of progressive, justice-oriented, LGBTQ-affirming, Christ-centered, seekers, believers and skeptics alike.

We worship together on Sunday mornings at 11:45am at First Congregational Church of Battle Creek located at 145 Capital Ave. NE

Koinonia is a Greek word that means to fellowship or to commune together.

We value communing together as travelers on a journey. We journey together on Sunday mornings in worship or in community activism or in one another’s homes or on our Facebook group each week.

We value the role of art, music and spiritual practicess in our individual and community spiritual lives. We desire to provide a spiritual playground through small groups, online discussion, one-on-one conversation, art/music groups and other opportunities for growth.

We value a diversity of voices at our table. Rather than silencing the voices of marginalized out of fear that there won’t be enough room, we seek to expand the table through love. Those who bring the Word to us may be trained lay preachers, clergy (Rev. Tom Ryberg and Rev. Tom Ott) or Kommunity members offering testimony. Kommunity members participate in many differing ways in our Sunday morning worship.

We value providing safe space for personal growth through vulnerability and authentic relationship. Safe space includes freedom to move, permission to abstain and grace for when we don’t get it right.

We make explicit our welcome to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community, as an Open and Affirming Congregation.
