Stewardship 2018

Dear FCCBC Friends,

Our stewardship emphasis for 2018 has centered around a question: What Shall We Bring? This question is asked by God’s people in the book of Micah. The prophet responds, saying:

“[God] has told you, O mortal, what is good;

   and what does the Lord require of you

but to do justice, and to love kindness,

   and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8

Even in 2018, both this question and Micah’s answer holds truth and power for us. Church can be a place with lots of busyness and business. However, as we set out to do the work that God has called us to in Battle Creek, we must keep focused on what is just, what is kind and what sustains us as a people who journey with God. If we do not, we may lose sight of why we are called to this work and what we chose to prioritize.

Your pledges of financial and volunteer support will help First Congregational Church collectively continue the work God has for us. Your prayerful support and spiritual engagement will help us keep sight of what is just, what is kind and what sustains us in this work.

There will be a designated time in our worship on Sunday, October 28th at our 11am OneBody service, to have our intentions consecrated. As always, these pledges represent our best intentions based on what we know at the present time. They can, at any time, be adjusted should your circumstances change.

Following our OneBody service, we will also have a time of fellowship and celebration with a OneBody meal to follow (feel free to bring a dish to pass.) After our OneBody meal, we will have a short gathering where we will distribute and discuss the outcomes of the recent discernment conversations (Dine ‘n Discern meals) that many of you participated in. These discernment gatherings centered around the recommendations provided to us through the Next Level Consultation that has been ongoing throughout this year.

I hope that you will take time to reflect on how God has provided for you over the last year and on how you desire to serve God and neighbor in 2019. Join us on Stewardship Sunday as we consider together how can we bring our best before God as we act justly, love mercy and journey humbly together in this beloved community in which we are planted.

In Christ,

Rev. Tom Ryberg
