Holy Week 2022 at FCCBC

We're now entering the last few weeks of this year's expansive, lavish, extravagant, full-to-the-brim Lenten journey, and the sacred time of Holy Week is right around the corner.

It's been three years since we were last able to gather in our physical space to celebrate the power, pathos, and mystery of Holy Week. We're excited to be able to invite you and your loved ones to join us as we encounter anew the story of Jesus' death and resurrection through story, song, art, movement, embodied practices, and deep presence.

All services will be in-person and live streamed on our Facebook page.

Palm Sunday: April 10th, 10AM

Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem turns the whole notion of the Roman imperial victory march on its ear. When the law-and-order crowd takes issue with the overflowing joy and fervor of the everyday folks who celebrate his arrival, Jesus simply says, "if these were silent, even the stones would cry out!" And so, with palm branches and processions, song and silence, we'll welcome the nonviolent revolution that only love, utterly poured out, can make real, right here, right now.

Maundy Thursday: April 14th, 7PM

Named after the Latin word that means "mandate," Maundy Thursday is a celebration of the final word Jesus gives us on what it is we're meant to be doing with this one wild and precious life: love one another. But we can't do that without our bodies, washed with water and nourished with bread and wine. We'll celebrate what it means to physically embody God's love for one another as we remember our baptism, wash each other's feet, and receive the gift of communion.

Good Friday: April 15th, 7PM

An anonymous English poet left these Good Friday words for us:

"In stillness nailed
To hold all time, all change,
All circumstance in and
to Love’s embrace."

On Good Friday, we'll gather quietly at the foot of the cross to keep vigil with the crucified Christ, who holds all time, all change, all circumstance in Love's embrace—including us. This poignant and contemplative service will feature silence and stillness as its keystone.

Easter Sunday: April 17th, 10AM

This Sunday needs no introduction—it's the big show, the resurrection, the Feast of Feasts. Through song, story, and sacrament, we'll open our hearts once again to the presence of the Risen Christ. Even in the midst of our doubts and difficulties and the struggle of being human in this world. Even in the midst of all the questions that remain unanswered. Even with the magnitude of the work that stands before us in this moment in history. God’s love is full to the brim, and that changes everything.

How will we carry forth what we have learned this Lent? Can we be curious enough to return and remember? Can we allow ourselves to be filled with expansive hope? Can we trust in the expansive promise of a new life, and carry that promise wherever we go? We hope you will join us to explore these questions in body, mind, and spirit through these holiest of days.
